A 4,5 hrs trip to reach Larvik on an overcrowded boat with no, absolutely no, quiet corners. But as we are all good sports ....
Once on Norwegian ground all troubles were forgotten.
We had counted bottles of wine and booze and beer very carefully. Not a centiliter too much. To our slight frustration we were waived through without the faintest interest in our car or in our luggage.
Norway being extremely expensive, we brought all the supplies we expected to need for six days.
It later appeared to be way too much.
The trip to Stavern was beautiful and "Hotel Wassilioff", where we were to spend the first night, is a remarquably beautiful memory of the Past. The "Baedeker Guide" has given 3* to only two Norvegian hotels -"Wassilioff" is one of them.
Although there was rain in the air, we slept windows wide open with great view on the Fjord.
Sunshine the next morning on "Tordenskjold", who broke a couple of hearts in Stavern. Norwegian born Peder Wessel was a nobleman and an eminent naval flag officer in the service of the Dano-Norvegian navy. He is pictured on Danish matchboxes.
Road leading to the Marina in Stavern.
On the road to Oslo and through Gudbrandsdalen, we saw thousands of private boats (motor- as well as sailing boats) in the fjords. The Norwegians must have as many boats as cars.
A good four hours driving to reach "Hytten", which Margits brother had lent to her and Peter and which they graciously shared with us.
We left Denmark with 25*C to find 10-13 at destination.
Clouds were hanging low, but had only a drop or two of rain.
View from the deck.
View from the bathroom.
The first supper was spaghetti bolognaise (me), Hans served his excellent Italian wines and Margit scored with the best cheese cake ever (based on the original American recipe she wrote down in the early 80's).
